As time passes I will present some thoughts about my passion
for painting. . . a passion which has existed in different art forms through the years. I hope to clarify my aesthetic vision
through comparisons between painting and other forms within my experiences.
In my early years I can recall my anxious desire to paint, to draw. At that
time, I had already started piano lessons and violin lessons, and, too, there was only one painting teacher who instructed
at a museum. It was not easy getting into the art classes for reasons I fail to remember. With music lessons,
and the high expectations to succeed with high honors in school, my interests in the visual arts took a very back seat.

NEW YORK PLEIN AIR PAINTERS, a state wide collective of CHAPTERS. About 9 years ago, another painter and
I decided to establish this group which has grown to over 200 members. It grew slowly at first, perhaps because there
were few plein air painters interested in having any reason to connect with a mainly online group of painters. Of course,
the original members wanted to meet and paint with other painters. New York State is configured so that traveling to
meet and paint was not so simple - from the eastern tip of Long Island to the nothernmost St. Lawrence, and across to Lake
Huron would require a several day painting adventure. That exceeded painters' interests and time.
Eventually
CHAPTERS were created, providing on location painters the option to paint with others who lived near their region. Some CHAPTERS
have grown due to the creative leadership of a few members, others paint less frequently but still with earnest enthusiasm.
Some members continue to paint without joining a group.
